Who we are
We are CPRE, the countryside charity, representing the county of Warwickshire. This includes Coventry, Solihull and a major part of the city of Birmingham.
We want a countryside that’s rich in nature, accessible to everyone and that responds to the climate emergency. We are the local CPRE branch in Warwickshire, advocating for sustainable, healthy communities and countryside that is available to more people than ever, including those who haven’t benefited before. We stand for a countryside that enriches all of our lives, nourishes our well-being, and that we in turn nourish, protect and celebrate.
To help us achieve this, we have a team of volunteer planning officers who monitor planning applications in their area and support or oppose them as appropriate. See our opposition to 620 houses on Kenilworth Green Belt.
Unlike many environmental charities, CPRE has no vested interests – we own no land, rely solely on donations and grants, and are politically independent.
We’ve worked for almost a century to support and promote the countryside, and we’ll be doing this for generations to come. That’s why we call ourselves ‘the countryside charity’.
The Warwickshire Branch of CPRE is a charity in its own right – our charity number is 1092486. What is probably not so well known is that all the help we provide, whether to individuals, organisations, parishes or others is given free of charge: we receive no income for the work we do! The main source of our income is derived from members’ annual or life subscriptions and for these we are so grateful – without our members we would cease to exist as would the work we do to protect the county’s countryside.
So if we have helped you and you feel as though you would like to help us in return, then the best way to do this would be to join us and become a member. But if you feel you have enough of such things and would just like to give us a one off reward, then please do so on the donation page or contact the office on 01926 4949597 to discuss with John or Myles how best you can help us.
