Solihull Metropolitan Council
The Metropolitan Borough of Solihull is a large town with a population in excess of 200,000. Historically located within the old boundary of Warwickshire, it now a thriving centre for commercial, retail and industrial activity.
It’s central location and easy communication links encourage development. Adjacent to the town is Birmingham Airport and the NEC, both of which attract large numbers visitors. The Green Belt is an important asset, but is under constant threat.
The town is noted for its historic architecture, including surviving examples of timber framed Tudor style houses, the fine church of St Alphege’s and of course its shops. It is a popular residential area with a number of parks and recreational facilities.
The Branch has submitted responses to the Solihull Local Plan (read below.) We have Jean Walters and Mark Sullivan to thank for all their hard work in completing this: the period to do so was short; no personal meetings were allowed and the Plan itself is long and complicated. So huge thanks!
