Stratford on Avon and Warwick District Councils are working together to produce a new South Warwickshire Local Plan.

The re-organisation of Warwickshire’s councils, specifically the potential merger between Warwick DC and Stratford on Avon DC gathers pace.

Meanwhile the idea of a ‘Unitary’ Authority for the county whereby the county would become part of the West Midlands Combined Authority, is still alive following Michael Gove’s response to Matt Western’s (MP for Warwick and Leamington) questions about whether the local residents would have the final say when it came to agreeing upon the final restructuring. The question remained unanswered! And Gove’s actual response was in line with the previously leaked draft White paper which proposed that district and county councils be scrapped or merged and replaced by elected mayors overseeing larger ‘territories’ such as the West Midlands.

We support Matt’s call for the people to take control of the process and have the final say through a referendum.
