Birmingham City Council

Birmingham is a major city and Metropolitan Borough much of which is located in the old county of Warwickshire. The city has a tradition of industrial activity, once known as the workshop of the world and a city of a thousand trades.

Birmingham is famous for its Art Gallery, the canal network with more waterways than Venice and its transformation from an industrial centre to a commercial, financial and tourist hub. A number of motorways converge in Birmingham making spaghetti junction a familiar hazard for many motorists.

However green spaces and parks are numerous, many dating back to Victorian times when the town expanded dramatically. Pressure for housing still exists but with many brownfield sites still available campaigners are active to try to reduce the threat.
